Twinned settlements British Isles / Spain -- not all that many of them -- but Limerick is twinned with A Coruna (Corunna) in Spain's far north-west. East Grinstead, West Sussex, is twinned with San Feliu de Guixols on the Costa Brava. (Irresistible, though irrelevant, gricing connection: East Grinstead, we know; San Feliu was the seaward terminus of Spain's last -- closed very long ago -- 750mm gauge public line.)

The author Flora Thompson (1867 -- 1947) -- best known for her fictional, but semi-autobiographical Lark Rise to Candleford trilogy -- worked as a post-office clerk at various places in southern England, including a spell at Yateley. Her early education was at the parish school of Cottisford, Oxfordshire (between Bicester and Brackley) -- the village of "Fordlow" in the trilogy, is reckoned to have been modelled on Cottisford.

Cradley is in a small cluster of villages; the others of which, are Storridge and Mathon. An annual Three Villages Festival is held in this "patch" -- "celebrating rural Herefordshire life".

The witan (lit. 'wise men') was the king's council in the Anglo-Saxon government of England from before the 7th century until the 11th century. It comprised important noblemen, including ealdormen, thegns, and bishops. Meetings of the witan were sometimes called the witenagemot.

Edington, Wiltshire is another location where the Witan met.

Englefield in Berkshire was also the scene of a battle between the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings.

The village is mostly within the bounds of the private walled estate of Englefield House. In the late 19th century, Richard Fellowes Benyon rebuilt the villagers' houses as a model estate village and provided them with such amenities as a swimming pool, soup kitchen and a new school.

Richard Fellowes, was born at Haveringland Hall in Norfolk. He was a patron of the Society for the Suppression of Mendicity, the National Society for School Furniture, and the Oxford Diocesan Society for the Augmentation of Small Livings.

Taverham in Norfolk was also once under the jurisdiction of the St Faith's Poor Law Union.

Taverham has prominent associations with the 10th / 11th century Saint Walston or Walstan; who "as per", lived most of his life, and died, there. The sainted gent is reckoned per the lore, to have been born in Bawburgh, Norfolk (4 miles south of Taverham) -- less-favoured versions would have his birthplace as Blythburgh, Suffolk.
