There would seem to have been in the 18th and 19th centuries, a remarkable plethora of poets -- unrelated to each other -- all named James Thomson, and all born in southerly parts of Scotland. Four altogether: from the info, they all seem to have been at least somewhat better at their craft -- not that that would have been hard -- than a certain gentleman from Dundee, contemporary of three of them. Perhaps the best-known of these J.T's is the earliest-born (in 1700; died 1748); who spent the second half of his life in England -- latterly living in Richmond-upon-Thames -- and wrote the words of Rule Britannia. The poetic James Thomson associated with Bowden, however: was born there, in 1827; date of death 1888.
