You just beat me to it ! I was in the process of composing a pretty-well-identical post, about old George and his birthplace.The noted Victorian author George Gissing based part of one of his novels, The Odd Women, on Seascale and the Lake District. George Gissing was born in Wakefield.

Am defaulting to a favourite theme of mine -- a bit naughtily in this instance. Wakefield is twinned with Castres, in the French departement of Tarn. I can't find any other British settlement with a twin town in that departement; but Narbonne, in the neighbouring departement of Aude: is twinned with Salford, Greater Manchester.
