There were shot at North Berwick, some scenes of the 2013 film The Railway Man: cinema adaptation of the autobiographical book of the same name by Eric Lomax -- about his often harrowing experiences as a World War II POW of the Japanese, forced to work on the construction of the infamous Burma -- Siam railway; and things following therefrom for him, later in his life. Other parts of this film, were shot in and around the other Berwick in these general parts: Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. (Will confess that my seeing the film held elements of the tendency on the part of railway enthusiasts to miss the point vis-a-vis, broadly, dramatic art: I felt a bit miffed at the film's lack of any genuine steam-traction content, even re first half of 20th century -- there was one brief and highly unconvincing mock-up of same, set supposedly in wartime S-E Asia.)
