Uddingston in South Lanarkshire also has a church that is dedicated to St John the Baptist.
Do you ever recall a children's sweet treat called Hundreds and Thousands?Claverdon, Warwickshire, also lies on the A4189 road. (@Xenophon PCDGS -- you always have, to resort to, these Hundreds and things -- which are a closed book to me !)
Hawick, Scottish Borders, is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Nord. Wadhurst's "twin" is Aubers (this twinning choice, partly arising from a World War I episode impinging on both places); Hawick's is Bailleul (nothing particularly World War-related, as far as I know).Wadhurst in East Sussex also has a church that is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul.
The industrial estate on the former airfield at Flookburgh is nowadays also home to the Hawkshead Brewery....originally founded at Hawkshead but, until recently located at Staveley in Furness & Westmorland.Cartmel was once a major centre of manufacture for sticky toffee pudding, but alas the Cartmel Sticky Toffee Company has now moved to Flookburgh, also in Cumbria.
That last posting must have been on the wrong quiz, from what is said above in emboldened text. This quiz works in exactly the same manner as the Station Association Quiz, only this thread concentrates on the thousands of inhabited locales instead of their railway stations. As such, a small request has been made in the Station Association Quiz to keep everything in that thread railway-related from here on.
Carleton, Cumbria (very near Egremont and St. Bees) also has a namesake settlement in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The painter and woodcut artist Arabella Rankin was born in Muthill in 1871. She died in Kensington, London in 1943.
There is another Melmerby: in North Yorkshire, some sixty miles south-east of the above-bolded one. (The Yorkshire Melmerby has -- whisper it -- some "back-in-the-day", sub-trunk-line, rail significance.)Melmerby in Cumbria also lies on the route of the A686 road.
