The Beaminster sewage is pumped all the way to a treatment works at West Bay, still in Dorset. (I knew you would all want to know that!)
"Ship me somewhere east of sewage," as Kipling didn't quite write ...The Beaminster sewage is pumped all the way to a treatment works at West Bay, still in Dorset. (I knew you would all want to know that!)
I just cannot resist "twinnings" -- Thetford, Norfolk, is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Essonne (just south of Paris). Thetford's "twin" is Les Ulis; Whitnash's, is Villebon-sur-Yvette. (It would be nice if Villebon had a club for the playing of bowls, English-style; but probably too much to hope for.)Like Machen, Whitnash in Warwickshire also has a thriving Petanque club.
Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, also features in a folk-song involving the regrettable and unexpected death of a character therein. Cause of demise re the Yorkshire settlement, is a bad cold resulting from a hatless visit to the local moor; re the Scottish one, it is unrequited love.Ilkley, West Yorkshire, also has a Grade II* Listed church dedicated to All Saints.
