Halkyn formerly had numerous pubs; the majority now "repurposed" -- one such, being that which was known as the Raven. Corby, Northamptonshire, has (still) a Raven Hotel.

Scottish character actor Jameson Clark - who starred in the 1949 film version of Compton Mackenzie's comic novel 'Whisky Galore' - was born and died in Kilbirnie. The film was mainly shot in and around Castlebay on the Isle of Barra.

George Woulfe Brennan was an Oban-based architect who designed the Catholic church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea in Castlebay. He also designed St Bride's church, West Kilbride, Ayrshire.

Most of Woulfe Brennan's work was done in Oban, and he was seemingly not fussy or stuck-up about what he took on. According to the excellent Dictionary of Scottish Architects website, his commissions in the town ranged from 'Sheriff courthouse and county buildings' to 'Garage, Combie Street' and 'Shed and sawbench'

The Catholic church of St Mary of the Isle in Douglas was this week raised to the status of cathedral by Pope Francis; it will be co-cathedral with the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool.

Bill Bryson, in Notes from a Small Island, writes approvingly of Fleetwood; or at any rate, of the view northward therefrom across the bay to the Lakeland hills. Bryson is, in the book, rather ambivalent about Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Gisburn was an alternative name for the town of Guisborough in North Yorkshire, so the village in Lancashire was sometimes referred to as "Gisburn in Craven".

Whorlton has a Church of the Holy Rood. Stirling's venerable medieval parish church (for those thereabouts, who like that kind of thing) is similarly named / dedicated; but its official designation, is the Church of the Holy Rude (as in indecorous) -- same derivation, one takes it: "rood" -- old word for cross. (The Wiki article on this church, seemed to me a bit suspect [some prankster sneaking nonsensical stuff in?] -- but checking elsewhere on the Net, "Rude" it indeed is.)

Peebles's coat of arms shows on the shield, three salmon. This; and the motto, Contra Nando Incrementum = "there is growth by swimming against the stream"; refer to the annual migration of salmon up the River Tweed (on which Peebles lies) to breed. The coat of arms of Bournemouth also features salmon: four of them, but on just one quarter of the c. of a.'s shield.

Morecambe's name is derived from that of the one-time Roman settlement on the site: Moriancabris AEsturus. Similarly with Loughor, Swansea: from Leucarum.
