Cheating a little bit -- Barmouth (Gwynedd) is another settlement in Wales, whose Welsh name bears a considerable similarity to its English one. This applies anyway, to what Welsh-speakers colloquially call Barmouth -- thus while Wrexham is Wrecsam, Barmouth is Y Bermo (its "solemn and official" Welsh name is Abermaw).

Russel Davies, journalist and presenter of Brain of Britain, was born in Barmouth. He was educated at (among other places) Manchester Grammar School, in Manchester (or Manceinion, if we're sticking with the language of heaven).

Bridgwater's four-day annual fair, held in September; is reckoned to be the second-largest funfair in England, after Nottingham's famous Goose Fair.

Born in Gatehouse of Fleet (later in life, lived in Wigtown, not far away) was Jeannie Donan (1864 -- 1942): of some renown, it seems, as "The Galloway Poetess". From the Wiki item listing her copious works, I get the feeling that those same, were probably awful -- I'm probably too hard on the world's numerous earnest but not-hugely-well-known poets. Donan had a contemporary and counterpart on the other side of the North Channel, in Amanda McKittrick Ros -- prolific novelist and poet whose output is quite famed for being such garbage: that she has a considerable affectionate following, holding the sentiment that "she's so very bad that she's good". Ros was born in Drumaness, Co. Down (near Ballynahinch), and spent all her life in Ulster. (Her husband was stationmaster at Larne Harbour station.)

Baileysmill lies on Northern Ireland's A49 road: northern limit of which, linking with the further road network, is Lisburn (Counties Down / Antrim).

Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, is also twinned with a settlement in the German State of Niedersachsen. Kendal's "twin" is Rinteln; Burton's is Lingen.

Acton Trussell has also been declared the best kept small village in Staffordshire, in 2022. Harlaston had won the title five times, but standards are obviously slipping.

As does Acton Trussell -- Penkridge (Staffordshire), a little way to its south: lies both on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal; and, appropriately, the River Penk.

There are linguistic theories about a very complicated origin -- arising from more than one ancient tongue -- for the name of Brewood. A similar situation is suggested concerning Bredon (Worcestershire) and its Hill: with the three syllables of "Bredon Hill", from three languages of long ago -- signifying in combination, "hill hill hill".
