Remains of mammoths have also been found at Sherford, Devon -- a little way east of Kingsbridge.
That is the new town that saw its first houses completed in 2009. There is another Sherford in the same South Hams area of Devon which has been established for over 1,000 years and received a mention in the Domesday Book.

Honest mistake on my part -- thought the two Sherfords were one and the same (closer Wiki consultation would have set me right) -- the "new town" one is very near Plymouth, not so?

Near the South Hams Sherford is the estate of Stancombe Dawney, long that of the Pollexfen family (most famous member thereof, Sir Henry Pollexfen [1632 -- 1691], Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas for the last couple of years of his life). There has also been a prominent Pollexfen family in Ireland (presumably -- with such an unusual surname -- related), resident in Sligo: the poet W.B. Yeats's mother was a Pollexfen.

Sligo Rovers FC lay their home matches at The Showgrounds since their formation in 1928. In 2012, they were the League of Ireland Premier Division champions for the first and, so far, only time. Another single time winners of the same competition are Drogheda United FC, who won the competition in 2007; they play their home matches at Weavers Park, Drogheda.

Drogheda is twinned with an Italian settlement -- Bronte, in Sicily. Seemingly, few places in the British Isles have "twins" in the more southerly parts of Italy; but Limerick is twinned with Napoli (Naples).

Probably the British Isles' biggest and most enthusiastic official Halloween celebration, is Derry / Londonderry's annual Halloween Carnival. Cullen, Moray, at least used to have a Halloween tradition of anarchic all-participants-welcome football -- akin to the similar English Shrovetide happenings -- played on the local beach.

Lauder is on the Southern Upland Way, Scotland's only coast to coast footpath. The western start point of this is Portpatrick.

In summer, Anstruther Pleasure Cruises operate sightseeing / wildlife cruises from the port's harbour to the Isle of May, reckoned the UK's primary puffin location. The location with the greatest number of nesting puffins, in the more southerly parts of Britain -- even if feeble stuff compared with the Isle of May -- is Skomer Island just off the Pembrokeshire coast: nearest settlement Marloes, Pembrokeshire.

Pwllgwaelod is located on Dinas Island; which is actually not an island, but a peninsula. A geographical feature to which the same applies, is the so-called Island Magee -- on the Irish Sea side of Northern Ireland. The village of Portmuck, Co. Antrim, is located on Island Magee.

Ballasalla is one of the British Isles' quite numerous settlements whose names refer to the willow tree -- it's from the Manx Bailey Sallagh = "place of willows". Another in this category -- which we've had in the game previously, but "many moons ago" -- is Walsham-le-Willows, Suffolk (between Bury St. Edmunds and Diss).

Knettishall is only just in its county; on the other side of the River Little Ouse on which it lies, is Norfolk. The same is true of Birr, Co. Offaly: just across the River Little Brosna on which it is situated, is Co. Tipperary.

Cashel is the location of one of the six cathedrals of the Anglican Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, although the Bishop currently resides in Kilkenny. Another of the six cathedrals can be found in Ferns, County Wexford.

Solva Woollen Mill is located in the village of Middle Mill, part of the community of Solva. It has been in operation since 1907, when Tom Griffiths moved his mill from St Davids to a new purpose-built building in the community.

Cumbernauld is another of the 1960s Scottish new towns....built largely to house the overspill population from the post-war slum clearence schemes in Glasgow and - to a lesser extent - Edinburgh.

Cumbernauld was one of the towns which had a Woolco store - for younger readers, Woolco were the first of the big box "superstore" type stores, often out of town or away from the town centre, set up by Woolworths. Another place which had a Woolco store was Hatfield (Herts) - though Hatfield's was in the town centre interestingly.

Wymeswold, Leicestershire -- a few miles east of Loughborough -- also has a pub called the Windmill.
