St Michael and All Angels, Croft is one of three churches in a combined Parish which also contains St Mary the Virgin, Broughton Astley and St Michael's, Stoney Stanton.
Melbury Sampford in Dorset was also once under the jurisdiction of the Beaminster Poor Law Union.
Do we have any strong views from the regular players here about whether this is a settlement association link, or perhaps more of a station association link?Tarset station was on the Border Counties Railway the route of which is now partially submerged under Kielder Water. Bala station was on the now closed Bala - Ffestiniog railway, which is partially submerged under Capel Celyn reservoir.
My understanding is that -- as, briefly and in bare essentials, set out in post #1 inaugurating this game -- said game, "Settlement Association", should be about anything and everything which might associate settlements with each other; except for railway-related stuff (stations, and other). Other participants have, elsewhere in the thread -- I can't, on the spot, locate such references -- reinforced this stipulation.
I myself occasionally make in posts here, railway-related references; but emphasise that they are "just for interest", irrelevant to the progress of the game. I try to be scrupulous about making actual associations, rail-free -- occasionally, I perhaps "push the envelope" a bit.
ETA: quote from another participant a few years ago (happened-on by chance): "please do not make any railway-related postings on this quiz".
Shall we try
Bala is a few miles down the road from a reservoir (Llyn Celyn) like Tarset (Kielder Water)
Ok, NP. I have struck it out. Was really struggling for something to go with Tarset......
Sookholme in Nottinghamshire was also once under the jurisdiction of the Mansfield Poor Law Union.
