Milwich ends in 'wich' which is often the case for a town where salt was mined, such as Northwich

In 2022, Congleton appointed an official Ale Taster, to mark the 750th anniversary of the town's being granted its Charter. A bit of a stretch; but St. Neots, Cambridgeshire, has a hostelry -- in fact styling itsef a "micropub" -- called The Ale Taster.

Although he spent the majority of his life in London; the celebrated diarist and public servant Samuel Pepys (1633 -- 1703) attended Huntingdon Grammar School for a while. For much of the 1670s, Pepys was MP for Castle Rising, Norfolk (near King's Lynn) -- which looks to have been one of the "dodgy" constituencies which were abolished in the Reform Act of 1832.

Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Calvados. Leonard Stanley's "twin" is Dozule; Ross's, is Conde-en-Normandie.

Dormantree in Herefordshire was also once administered by the Hundred of Greytree.

I'm finding this one, more than a bit desperate to get out of -- doing so, involving somewhat bare-faced cheek. Googling Dormantree yielded nothing except copious material about the doings of the Dorman Tree Farm neat Kodiak, Alaska ! There is also in Alaska, the settlement of Bethel; which has a namesake in Bethel, Gwynedd -- some three miles north-east of Caernarfon :s.

Organisers of birthday parties for young children in Gwynedd will be pleased to know that CA Bouncy Castle Hire is based in Bethel, and can facilitate noisy and exuberant fun for those of a suitable age.

Big Bounce Bouncy Castle Hire is a similar business trading in Heckmondwike West Yorkshire.

Peter Purves, presenter of the BBC children's TV programme Blue Peter, lived for some years in Cogenhoe. Another Blue Peter "big name", Valerie Singleton, was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire -- not immensely far away.

Both Hitchin and Grays (Essex) had bus garages operated by Eastern National and London Transport.

(Hitchin had its own LT garage at Park Street, the Eastern National garage on Fishponds Road passed to United Counties in 1952, Grays had an Eastern National garage which passed to LTE in 1951).

Leigh, Kent -- near Tonbridge -- is also given as place of residence, in a limerick about the oddities of a highly eccentric male citizen of the settlement.

Morecambe used to be the location of the country's biggest Pontins holiday camp -- it closed in 1993. Brean (Sands), Somerset, still has a Pontins holiday establishment.

Alton Barnes was the location of a Led Zeppelin album cover, Ely was the location of a Pink Floyd album cover (The Division Bell).

The album cover for Pink Floyd's album cover The Division Bell was created by Storm Thorgerson. He was of Norwegian descent, but was born in Potters Bar (then in Middlesex but now part of Hertfordshire) on 28th February 1944.

Wells has been used as the setting for several films including The Libertine (starring Johnny Depp) in 2004. Another location used in the making of the film was Tretower Court in Powys.
