The civil parish of Wootton Fitzpaine includes the ecclesiastical parish and small settlement of Monkton Wylds. St Andrew's Church, Monkton Wylds was built in 1848 – 1849 to the designs of the English architect Richard Cromwell Carpenter (1812 – 1855); he was also responsible for the design of St John the Baptist Church, Cookham Dean, Berkshire in 1843.

Bodiam has a restaurant called the Curlew. Further on the "wader" theme: Rhosneigr, Anglesey, has a pub / restaurant called the Oyster Catcher.

Llangadwaladr is the site of a gravestone inscribed for Cadfan ap Iago a 7th Century King of Gwynedd who reigned until around 625 AD.

Cadfan was succeeded by his son Cadwallon ap Cadfan, who received a less-than-favourable write-up (1-star review in modern parlance) in The Venerable Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People.

King Cadwallon died at the Battle of Heavenfield, fought in 633 or 634 AD near the modern-day settlement of Hexham, Northumberland.

Lostwithiel has a suburb called Bridgend. Not the only location with that name, in these islands ... one can get sick of the place of that name in South Wales (nice town though it probably is); Ireland has another one -- Bridgend (alternatively Bridge End), just in Co. Donegal: a little way north-west of [London]derry.

Carrigans, Co Donegal, is another village that would have been transferred from the Irish Republic to Northern Ireland had the recommendations of the 1925 Boundary Commission been implemented.

Ballyragget was known in times past, as Donoughmore. There is further south, in Co. Cork, a settlement nowadays called Donoughmore; north-west of Cork city (and with the 3-ft. gauge -- irrelevant here, of course :D -- in its past).

Dunfermline, Fife, is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Allier. Templemore's "twin" is Premilhat; Dunfermline's is Vichy.

Robert the Bruce is one of the Scottish kings buried at Dunfermline Abbey. Despite his reputation as an all-Scottish hero, some historians claim that he was born at Writtle in Essex.
