The Hospital of God, Greatham, County Durham, was founded in 1273 by the then Bishop of Durham, Robert de Stichell. It was originally a foundation to aid poor people. By the sixteenth century the foundation was used more as a "house of entertainment for gentlemen" and it was not well used for helping the poor. After 1610 there were reforms, and its original mission was resumed. It now runs day centres and home visiting services for patients, many of whom have dementia, in Greatham, Horden, Seaham and Wheatley Hill.

St Mary's Church is situated in Market Square, in the middle of Blessington. It is part of the Blessington Union of Parishes, as is St. John the Evangelist Church, Ballymore Eustace, County Wicklow.

Sligo Courthouse is an asymmetrical Neo-Gothic building designed by James Rawson Carroll (1830 – 1911) and built in 1878.
He was also responsible for the design of Saint John's church, Abington, County Limerick, which was built in 1869.

There is a sightly better-known and more populous Abington in South Lanarkshire, in the upper Clyde valley.

Roger Hargreaves, creator of the Mr. Men and Little Miss series of children's cartoon books, was born in Cleckheaton in 1935. Another deviser of cartoon-type material loved by the younger set -- Oliver Postgate -- was born in Hendon, Middlesex, in 1925.

Much of Falkland, including its castle, was restored by the fabulously wealthy 3rd Marquess of Bute, who also commissioned the restoration of Cardiff Castle, in which city he owned the docks.

Concerning heraldic things in common -- the supporters of Cardiff's coat of arms are a (highly stylised, heraldic) seahorse; and a ram. The arms of South Molton, North Devon, are also characterised by something ovine, but decidedly dead: a sheep's fleece (with head and horns) featuring on the shield.

One of Leatherhead's oldest buildings is the timber-framed Sweech House -- oldest parts dating from the 15th century, building now conserved: the name Sweech reckoned an earlier form of "switch" -- the house being situated by a road junction. The name could be found reminiscent of a perhaps more widely-known venue a good way west in England: Speech House in the Forest of Dean -- venerable structure which was once the administrative building of the local democracy of the Forest; it's now a hotel. Nearest settlement is Ruspidge, Gloucestershire -- just west of Cinderford.

Thorner was the location of one of the Starfish Sites during WW2 - large-scale night-time decoys created during the Blitz to simulate British cities with the aim of diverting German night bombers from their intended targets so they would drop their ordnance over the countryside.

Another sparsely-populated Starfish Site in the vicinity of a major city was at Carrington Moss, a peat bog adjacent to Carrington, Greater Manchester.
