I have vague memories from long ago of a further education institution known as Lanchester Poly. I couldn't remember where this was located, except that it was not in the settlement of Lanchester, Co. Durham.

The wonders of the internet confirm this establishment was, in fact, named after the automotive and aerodynamics engineer Frederick W. Lanchester and has now become the University of Coventry.

Coventry's main football team, Coventry City, now somewhat in the doldrums, was a successful and glamorous side under the management of Jimmy Hill, who introduced among other things its sky blue strip. Hill was born in Balham, south London.

The little River Anton rises in the northern part of Andover town; and flows southward thence for a few miles, to join the River Test near Fullerton, Hampshire.

I can find very little information about East Cholderton, as Mr W Pedia doesn't seem to now much about the place. He does say, though, that Lieutenant General Sir John Elley MP KCB KCH KMT KSG (1764 - 1839), a cavalry officer who fought with distinction in the Napoleonic Wars, lived and died at Cholderton Lodge, on the outskirts of the village. In turn, though information about Elley is scarce, perhaps partly because of his humble origins; he was born in London, where his father ran an eating-house at Furnival's Inn, Holborn.

A bit of an exercise in envelope-pushing here: there are various theories on the derivation of Holborn's name -- one being that it comes from "Old Bourne" = "old brook": a small stream in those parts which was a tributary of the Fleet River, which runs through that area of London to join, in turn, the Thames (and which [the Fleet] was, one gathers, quite disgustingly polluted in past centuries). Another Fleet, in a highly-contrasting part of the country, is the parish of that name in south Lincolnshire, about ten miles east of Spalding; the principal village of which is Fleet Hargate.

Donington, Lincolnshire, a couple of miles from Quadring; is also on the short A152 road -- Donington is where it joins the A52.

Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, is also twinned with a settlement in Hungary. Poynton's "twin" is Erd; Eastwood's, Szolnok.

Lydd, Kent (on Romney Marsh) also has a church dedicated to All Saints (locally dubbed "The Cathedral on the Marsh").

Sunderland Bridge has a hotel / pub called The Honest Lawyer. (People are proverbially not over-fond of the legal profession; with the implication that an honest member thereof is rare enough, to merit naming a hostelry after !) Grimsby, Lincolnshire, has a pub of the same name.

Merton - apparently a seldom-used district name even though (or perhaps because) it is that of the larger London borough of which it is a part - was the location of an Augustinian priory, one of whose alumni was Walter de Merton, founder of the eponymous Oxford college.
