Moot Hall (or "The Green House") stands in isolation on Elstow village green. This Tudor timber-framed building was built in the 15th century, possibly by Elstow Abbey's carpenter William Arnold, to provide both a courtroom and a market house. Similar late-medieval market houses, with a long chamber on the upper floor, are rare. Two others survive in Buckinghamshire, at Long Crendon and West Wycombe.

St Mary's Church, Nether Alderley dates from the 14th century, with later additions and a major restoration in the late 19th century; it is a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active parish church in the diocese of Chester; its benefice is combined with that of St Catherine's Church, Over Alderley (also known as St Catherine's Church, Birtles).

The aforementioned noted National Trust garden site is Biddulph Grange, which was developed by James Bateman (1811–1897), the accomplished horticulturist and landowner. He moved to Biddulph Grange around 1840, although he was born at Redvales, a residential district to the south of Bury in Lancashire.

Eston features centrally in the acclaimed documentary film, released 2004, by Craig Harnby, A Century in Stone: on how the mid-19th-century discovery of ironstone at Eston, led to the growth of the Teesside iron-and-steel complex. Another settlement strongly associated with a (much earlier) cinematic documentary of renown, is Inishmore: biggest of the Aran Islands, at the mouth of Galway Bay -- where was made, Robert J. Flaherty's Man of Aran of 1934 (some doubt nowadays, as to whether this latter film is fully authentic for its period).

Lettermore is on the R374 regional road, which runs from it's junction with the R343 at Doire an Fhéich to it's terminal point at the junction with the local road 5234 at Lettermullen.

Settlements with names commencing "Letter..." (from the Irish-language word for "hillside") are quite numerous in Ireland -- usually in the remoter western parts. The closest "Letter..." place to civilisation :E, which I can find in Ireland: is Letterbreen (meaning, "Bruin's hillside"), Co. Fermanagh; a little way south-west of Enniskillen.

Gordon Wilson (1927-1995) became a campaigner for peace and forgiveness after he was injured and his daughter Marie killed in the IRA bombing of a Remembrance Day parade at Enniskillen on 8 November 1987. He was a native of Manorhamilton.

Oscar Wilde attended Portora Royal School in Enniskillen. One of his best-loved plays, The Importance of Being Earnest, has as a prominent character the magnificently supercilious Lady Bracknell -- name borrowed from the Berkshire town.

Bracknell was used in the filming TV detective series Pie in the Sky, albeit given the name 'Laxton'. The main character was Inspector Henry Crabbe, a disillusioned policeman and pie chef extraordinaire, played by Richard Griffiths OBE (1947 – 2013), a role which was created for him. He was born in Thornaby-on-Tees, commonly referred to as Thornaby, North Yorkshire.

Builder Thomas Cubitt was born in Buxton in 1788. He was responsible for the construction of large parts of Belgravia, Pimlico and Bloomsbury in London and Kemp Town in Brighton, and much else besides.
