The annual Tiitchfield Carnival -- assorted "frolics and fun" including a bonfire: is organised by the officially titled Titchfield Bonfire Boys Society; but takes place in late October, and would seem not actually to involve commemorating the 1605 foiling of the Gunpowder Plot. A difference here, from the prominent November 5th celebrations some way down the coast in Lewes, East Sussex: which are very much about the Gunpowder Plot (and until recently, still openly displayed anti-Catholic attitudes): with the participants in the Lewes doings being known as the "Bonfire Boys", but unofficially.

Montacute has two pubs: the Phelips Arms -- seemingly a unique name among British pubs (after a formerly prominent local family); and the King's Arms, which must have hundreds of pubs in Britain as namesakes. Didmarton, Gloucestershire -- north-east of Chipping Sodbury -- also has a King's Arms.

The Somerset Monument is a Victorian-era stone tower built above Hawkesbury to commemorate the noted soldier, General Lord Robert Edward Henry Somerset GCB, who apparently lost his hat during the first cavalry charge at Waterloo(sounds like a line from Blackadder).

Another prominent stone tower memorial - this one commemorating a statesman rather than a soldier - is the Peel Tower, located above Holcombe, Greater Manchester.

The Haven ports are a group of ports on the east coast of England. Traditionally, only the three deep-water ports of Ipswich, Harwich and Felixstowe, on the confluence of the River Orwell and River Stour, were included. The name has since changed to mean the following five ports:
  • Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk
  • Port of Ipswich in Suffolk
  • Harwich International in Essex
  • Harwich Navyyard in Essex
  • Mistley in Essex.

Wrabness Local Nature Reserve was designated in 1993, and covers 52 acres on the banks of the River Stour estuary. It is run by the Essex Wildlife Trust (EWT), one of 46 Wildlife Trusts in the United Kingdom. Blue House Farm is a 242.8-hectare nature reserve and farm in North Farmbridge, on the north bank of the River Crouch between Burnham-on-Crouch and South Woodham Ferrers in Essex; it is also managed by theEssex Wildlife Trust.

My name is Calthrop and I am an annoying nitpicker -- this settlement is actually North Fambridge. Coleford, Somerset -- between Radstock and Shepton Mallet, not via the S & D rail route -- also has a church dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

You are correct ... my typing skills have let me down!
Gwersyllt in Wrexham County Borough also has a church that is dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
Should we go from Coleford rather than Gwersyllt as that's a duplicate reply?

If so, Holy Trinity Church, Coleford is part of the East Mendip Trinity Benefice; this also includes St Andrew’s Church, Holcombe, Somerset.

Closed in 1973, Kilmersdon Colliery was the last working pit in the Somerset coalfield. In its later years, it's coal production was moved by rail to Portishead power station.

There was a district of Nailsea named Nowhere, which was demolished in 1967 but remembered in the name of Nowhere Wood. County Durham still boasts a settlement called No Place, near Stanley.

No Place has been noted for its unusual place name. Another unusual place name in the North East is Bearpark, County Durham (from Beaurepaire, French for "beautiful retreat" – the name of a nearby Norman manor).

Tudhoe has been swallowed up by the more recently-arisen town of Spennymoor, "in practice but not in semblance". As Wiki puts it, "The modern town of Spennymoor lies only a few fields from Tudhoe, but the contours are such that it cannot be seen from most of the village -- Tudhoe gives the impression today, that it is still an isolated country village."

The local stream, Maltby Dike – or Beck as it is locally known - runs through the valley past St Bartholomew's, thence past Maltby Crags, through the Norwoods, through the centre of Roche Abbey, emptying into the River Ryton at the village of Blyth in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire a few miles downstream.
