In 1955, Nunnykirk Parish was greatly expanded to take over and include a half-dozen-odd hitherto neighbouring, become thinly-populated, parishes. One of these, was Wingates: thus becoming, I feel, equipped to represent Nunnykirk association-wise. Born in Wingates in seventeen-eighty-two AD, was the missionary Robert Morrison -- who served in this capacity in China; and with his colleague Mr. Milne, complied the first Chinese / English dictionary, and first translated the Christian scriptures into Chinese. Mr. Morrison lived -- briefly, in infancy -- with his family, in Morpeth, Northumberland.
