Withernsea briefly had a pier; which was, for sure, bedevilled by misfortune -- opened 1877, with a length of 399 yards. It was subsequently collided with at different times, by assorted seagoing vessels; thereby being progressively reduced in length -- in 1903, the town council gave up, and removed the surviving stub. Shanklin, Isle of Wight, has also possessed a pier which is no longer in existence, though it was longer-lived that that of the Yorkshire resort -- Shanklin's was wrecked beyond repair by the Great Storm of October 1987: the remains were finally demolished in 1993.

Actor Shaw Taylor, born in the London district of Hackney and probably best remembered as the presenter of Police Five, a forerunner of Crimewatch, spent his latter years living in Totland, where he died in 2015 aged ninety.

Winkburn lies just off the A617 road. Situated on that road some considerable way to the west is Heath, Derbyshire.

St Oswald's Church, Grasmere is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Windermere and is notable for its annual ceremony of Rushbearing. This is an old English ecclesiastical festival in which rushes are collected and carried to be strewn on the floor of the parish church; it dates back to the time when most buildings had earthen floors and rushes were used as a form of renewable floor covering for cleanliness and insulation. Rushbearing ceremonies have survived, or been revived, in a number of towns and villages in northwest England including Forest Chapel in Cheshire.

Aberdeen is the third most populous city in Scotland. From large tuna, say, to minnows: the Isle of Man's third most populous settlement, is Peel.

Glasson Dock has a pub called the Dalton Arms: which looks rather like being a pub name unique in Britain. However, Huddersfield (West Yorkshire) has a pub called just the Dalton.

The Duchy of Cornwall developed an extension to Dorchester on 'new urbanism' lines named Poundbury, and is developing an extension to Newquay called Nansledan, on the same design principles/ philosophy.

In World War II, the Public School Gresham's School, of Holt, Norfolk; was evacuated to Newquay -- one takes it, essentially further away from Jerry: two Newquay hotels accordingly pressed into service to accommodate masters and pupils.
