I was under the impression that there was a small estate of naval married quarters on the base, but if they don't qualify as a settlement for the purposes of the game then I stand corrected.

Culdrose lies on the line of the A394, as does the village of Trewennack, Cornwall.
The name of Tresillian, Cornwall -- a little way east of Truro -- has a similar formation, to that of Trewennack: Cornish tre = "farm or settlement", plus personal name of, presumably, the owner / local chief when the place name was coined; personal names Sulyen, and Gwedhenek, respectively.

Dobwalls in Cornwall also lies on the route of the A390 road.

Dobwalls is the site of a "bat bridge" over the A38. There is a similar structure over the A487 near Groeslon, Gwynedd.

Wolston lends its name to the Wolstonian Stage - a middle glacial stage of the Pleistocene Epoch in geological history.

On a theme to which I tend: West Runton has an imposing war memorial, which bears 37 names of World War I fatalities: even though this also includes men from neighbouring East Runton, this would seem a woefully large number of losses from such small places. In contrast -- St. Michael South Elmham, Suffolk (near Bungay) is one of Britain's "Thankful Villages": all those who went from there to World War I, came home alive (the village also lost no-one in World War II).

Sotterley in Suffolk was also once under the jurisdiction of the Wangford Poor Law Union.
For the botanists: the neighboring Sotterley Estate is one of the best sites in East Anglia for variety of species of lichen. Another great place for lichens in variety, is Lundy Island -- which I think we've agreed qualifies as a settlement, for purposes of the game.

Lundy was bought in 1925 by Martin Coles Harman, who in 1929 had his own coinage struck - One Puffin and Half Puffin Coins, with puffins on the obverse and Harman's head on the reverse. The coins were in use on the island alongside UK currency and were exchangeable at a bank in Bideford. Alas, the authorities poked their noses in. He was prosecuted under the 1870 Coinage Act and fined £5.

This one gives me the chance to mention a to me rather striking phrase, discovered by me via this game: the Norman Rape of Bramber (not horrific, the way it sounds; it's about Sussex being divided post-1066 into a number of administrative regions called Rapes). Shermanbury lies close by what was the eastern boundary of the Rape of Bramber: Wineham, the next settlement to the east, was in the Rape of Lewes.

Leonard and Virginia Woolf owned and stayed often at Monk's House in Rodmell; it was from there that Virginia went to take her own life in 1941 by drowning in the River Ouse. She had been born in South Kensington, London, in 1881. Leonard lived on at Rodmell until his death in 1969.
