The Dorset dialect poet and clergyman William Barnes (1801 -- 85) lived for a period, in Sturminster Newton. Later in his life, he was rector of Winterborne Came near Dorchester -- is buried in Winterborne Came churchyard.

The rare smooth snake and sand lizard are to be found on heathland near Puddletown. Another good spot for these creatures is the Special Area of Conservation / Site of Special Scientific Interest of Woolmer Forest, close by the hamlet of Woolmer, Hampshire (near Liphook).

Wrecclesham Cricket Club play at Riverdale in the village; their last opponents of the 2022 season were Puttenham and Wanborough Cricket Club, who play at The Heath in the village of Puttenham.

Puttenham is mentioned in Aldous Huxley's (somewhat) dystopian novel Brave New World -- in the society of which, it is "a modest little village nine storeys high". In George Orwell's dystopia in a different genre Nineteen-Eighty-Four, published a couple of decades later: Burnham, Buckinghamshire, gets a brief-ish mention.

Sometimes a life-saver as regards settlements with names in this particular mode: there was also a Ham class minesweeper named after Saxlingham, Norfolk (near Holt).

The naval officer and author Frederick Marryat (1792 -- 1848) settled -- as it turned out, shortly before his death -- in Langham. His best-known work is probably the novel The Children of the New Forest: set at the time of the English Civil War, in the region of Sway, Hampshire.

Dingwall was formerly the county town of one of the defunct historic counties of Scotland (Ross & Cromarty).

Alloa was another historic county town - of Clackmannanshire. Alloa took over this role from the town of Clackmannan in 1822 on account of the former's greater population by that time.

(An entity named Clackmannanshire has re-emerged in modern times as a Unitary Authority as a result of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994)

One of the two Church of Scotland's churches in Alloa is St Mungo's Parish Church. It was designed by the architect James Gillespie Graham and was opened in 1819. Another building designed by him was The Old Gaol in Cupar, Fife, which was built in 1813 / 1814 and closed as a prison in 1844.

Kilncadzow in South Lanarkshire -- a little way north of Lanark -- is another Scottish settlement which gives "Sassenachs" pronunciation problems (I think it's pronounced something like "Kin-cay-geh").

The Village of St Donats in the Vale of Glamorgan also has a King George's Field, which is a public open space in the United Kingdom dedicated to the memory of King George V (1865–1936).

Porthleven FC play at Gala Parc in the village, and play in the St Piran Football League. This is an English football league that was founded in 2019 to act as a feeder league to the South West Peninsula League at step seven of the National League system. Mullion FC Reserves play in the same League, and are based at Clifden Park, Mullion.

I thought of Poland when I saw the settlement named above........however, to continue....

In a 2018 thread titled "Places that you're not sure how to pronounce" on General Discussion here, there were a number of posts expressing the sentiment that a place with a name like that, OUGHT to be in Poland .

Landewednack in Cornwall was also once under the jurisdiction of the Helston Poor Law Union.

Landewednack is twinned with the very-similarly-named Landevennec in the French departement of Finistere. A very much bigger settlement in the same departement -- Brest -- is twinned with Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
