Thank you for Grimsthorpe: would seem to give me a chance of getting rather railway-ish, with impunity. Also located on the A151 road, further east -- still in Lincolnshire, between Bourne and Spalding -- is the hamlet of Twenty. This settlement used to have a station on the section of rail line running between Bourne and Spalding: opened in 1866, later to become part of the principal line of the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway of blessed memory. It appears to be a "chicken-and-egg" question as to whether the railway and station, or the hamlet, came into being first; at all events, this sparsely-populated area of former fenland country requires numerous land-drainage ditches running across it, to keep it drained and active for agriculture: in the building of the railway numerous such ditches were encountered, running at right angles to the rail route; station, and hamlet (on the accompanying road, for what that was worth in 1866) lay on the line of the twentieth such, out of wherever (Bourne?); hence the name Twenty.
