The novel Red Eve by H. Rider Haggard (better known for King Solomon's Mines and other Africa-located epics) is partly set in 14th-century Dunwich. Haggard (1856 -- 1925) was himself East Anglian by birth: his birthplace Bradenham, Norfolk -- near East Dereham.

Pubs and their names, to the rescue again ! With Leigh long having had a role in the fishing industry -- chiefly involving shellfish -- the town has a pub called Ye Olde Smack. Further up the coast, Great Yarmouth (Norfolk) has a pub / restaurant called, "from way back", the Barking Smack: it doesn't go "bow-wow" -- the name is after a characteristic vessel of the fleet of another Essex one-time fishing port -- viz. Barking: whose boats often called in at Yarmouth in former times.

Harleston lies on the River Waveney; which rises some ten miles to the west, near Redgrave, Suffolk; and at its other end, joins the Yare to reach the sea at Great Yarmouth / Gorleston.

In the late 19th century Waldringfield was a centre of coprolite mining, for use as fertiliser.

The potential for using coprolites as a fertiliser (by treating the mineral with sulphuric acid) was realised and patented in 1842 by Rev. J.S. Henslow, a Cambridge University don. The particular coprolites which Rev. Henslow used for his studies were sourced from the Suffolk village of Trimley St Martin.

All Saints Church, Deganwy, was built as a memorial church by Lady Augusta Mostyn to a design by John Douglas of Chester on a site overlooking the Conwy estuary. Another ecclesiastical building designed by him is St John the Baptist's Church is in the village of Aldford, Cheshire.

In Audlem, on the Shropshire Union Canal which runs through the village, there is a flight of fifteen locks. Some ten miles to the south, on the same stretch of the canal: there is a lesser flight of five locks at Tyrley (nearest "qualifying" settlement would seem to be Woodseaves -- Shropshire, though the reach concerned, of the canal -- would seem to be on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border).

In 1903, the Newcastle upon Tyne-based architect Frank West Rich (who was born in Darfield, West Riding of Yorkshire in 1840) purchased Dues Hill Grange and 3,000 acres of land in Holystone, which he subsequently renovated.

The Red Earl Spencer, who owned much of Chapel Brampton and broke the neck of his favourite horse there, was also manorial Lord and a major landowner in Wimbledon, SW London, where he caused a fury by proposing to develop the Common with villas.

Tobermory & Co. would have seen him off...

Ashburton, Devon, also has a namesake settlement in New Zealand.

Audax UK, a British cycling club which oversees randonneuring (long-distance cycling) in Britain, holds a number of regular rides during the year. One of these regular events is the Dartmoor Devil, which starts in Bovey Tracey.

Another Audax event, which covers Salisbury Plain and The Ridgeway, starts from the Oxfordshire village of Sparsholt.

Caution: There's another - quite different - village named Sparsholt near Winchester in Hants. Let's hope no long-distance cyclists or RUK Quiz posters get confused.
