Providence Chapel, a Grade II* Listed building, stands on a lane to the north of the village of Charlwood. The weatherboarded single-storey building was re-erected there in 1816 after being moved from Horsham, where it served as an Officer's Mess during the Napoleonic Wars. It was used as a Nonconformist chapel for almost 200 years but was put up for sale in 2012.In the spring of 2013, the Charlwood Society, a local history and preservation group, became the new trustees of the chapel.

Historically, before the town's growth due to the industrial revolution, Bolton was known as Bolton-le-Moors (with several variations in spelling and form also being recorded). This distinguished the district from other settlements with the same name.

Another village which still retains its -le-moors suffix (for the same purpose) is Appleton-le-Moors in North Yorks.

Oundle, Northamptonshire, also has a -- if one is being snobbish -- probably second-rank Public School.

Cogenhoe in Northamptonshire also lies on the line of the River Nene.

(Pronounced in these parts, "Nen"; as per post last week, re Thrapston .)

Gretton, Gloucestershire (near Winchcombe) has -- as does Cogenhoe -- one of England's innumerable pubs called the Royal Oak.

The settlement -- small village, or hamlet? -- on Bryher, is England's westernmost; its easternmost is Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Bracondale is an area of the city of Norwich; on the south-eastern edge of Cromer in Norfolk is Bracondale House -- built in 1890 by the Lord Mayor of Norwich as a holiday home. It's now a hotel.

Holmfirth in West Yorkshire was also used as the main filming location for a long-running television series. In the case of Port Isaac, it was Doc Martin and in the case of Holmfirth, Last of the Summer Wine.

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, also has a church dedicated to the Holy Trinity. (This church at Stratford is probably England's most-visited parish church, owing to its containing the grave of William Shakespeare.)
