Peter Lovesey's "Peter Diamond" murder mystery novels are located first and foremost in Bath, and concern that city's police force; but they include some action in other venues. Upon a Dark Night in that series, includes an episode or two in Bradford-on-Avon; the same goes for The Finisher in the same series, and Reading (Berkshire).

Coggeshall, Essex, is also situated on the River Blackwater; a few miles up that river, from Kelvedon.

Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, also has a namesake town in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Airdrie used to be the home to its own rugby union team called Waysiders RFC. This team was amalgamated with Drumpellier RFC in 1993 to form Waysiders Drumpellier RFC. They currently play in the West Regional Leagues Division One at Drumpellier RFC's traditional home ground in Langloan, Coatbridge.

Llanfwrog is on a network of un-named and unclassified roads which join onto the A5025 at both ends. Among other places, the northern arm of this road passes through the outskirts of Cemaes Bay.

In 1988, St. Enghenedl's Church in the above-bolded settlement, was dismantled and re-erected as an extension to St. Mihangel's Church at neighbouring Llanfihangel-yn-Nhowyn; allowing use there, both as church for the local population, and chapel for nearby R.A.F. Valley. (These Anglesey places would seem to pose, for "Saxons", a spelling-and-pronouncing mega-problem !)

Llanfihangel-y-Pennant is where Mary Jones walked from to Bala in order to purchase a Bible in 1800, leading to the formation of the British and Foreign Bible Society

Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire (just north of Bristol) also has a church dedicated to St. Michael.

(Llanfihangel-y-Pennant made an appearance -- several posts' worth -- in this game, a bit more than a year ago. It emerged that there are two villages with this name, both in Gwynedd -- one north-west of Porthmadog; the other -- Mary Jones's gaff -- near Tywyn. One could entertain a fancy, concerning the likes of us calling them Llanfihangel Ffestiniog, and Llanfihangel Talyllyn, respectively !)

New Holland, North Lincolnshire, was also in former times a vehicle (and foot-passengers) ferry terminal for the crossing of a broad river estuary; the ferry made redundant in each case, by construction and opening of a road bridge.

Birmingham is also twinned with a settlement in the German State of Hesse. R.T.W.'s "twin" is Wiesbaden; Birmingham's, Frankfurt-am-Main.

Birmingham is associated with th he Liberal and Unionist politician Joseph Chamberlain, who was a screw manufacturer an a mayor of the city carrying it celebrated reforms, before entering the national stage as MP for Birmingham in 1876. He was President of the Board of Trade and Colonial Secretary. He is remembered for leading a split in the Liberal Party on the issue of Home Rule for Ireland.

For all his strong identification with Brum, he was born in Camberwell, south London.

Lucy Walter, a mistress of Charles II, was born at Roch Castle near Haverfordwest. A lady of greater renown as a player of that role in said monarch's life -- i.e. Nell Gwyn -- is reckoned to have been born either at Hereford, not immensely far away from Haverfordwest; or in London.
