As I'm fond of remarking here (essentially tongue-in-cheek) -- Americans just can't spell place-names ! Beverly (no "e") in Massachusetts, USA, was at its founding, named after Beverley (East Riding); and its name begat in turn, later in history, the Los Angeles (California) neighbourhood of Beverly Hills. Another well-known L.A. neighbourhood, is Hollywood; which has a spelt-not-quite-the-same-way semi-namesake in these islands: Holywood, Co. Down -- a little way out of Belfast, alongside Belfast Lough. (No naming-after, here; the California Hollywood's founder, at its inception a little before moving pictures, chose the name because it sounded nice and because holly is supposed to be lucky !)
