Swainswick has a particular association with a long-ago ?historical ?mythical figure in the annals of nearby Bath: ?King / ?Prince Bladud, who became afflicted with leprosy and in consequence of that, became a lowly swineherd in the vicinity of Swainswick. He was (quasi-?) miraculously cured of his condition -- with Bath's hot springs maybe playing a role in that -- and was restored to greatness. Another and very different Bath historical personage (both, I gather, commemorated by their name being borne by one of the city's fleet of open-topped tourist buses) was Swansea-born Richard "Beau" Nash: eighteenth-century dandy, leader of fashion, and Master of Ceremonies at Bath.
