Gatton is a former village and borough in Surrey, England, and an ancient parish. It survives as a sparsely populated, predominantly rural locality, which includes Gatton Park, which dates from the 17th Century. The property was requisitioned during the Second World War and the estate was then purchased by the current owners, The Royal Alexandra and Albert School. This is an all-through co-educational boarding school which was created in 1949, when The Royal Alexandra School, which was founded in 1758, and The Royal Albert Orphan School, which was founded in 1864 as a national memorial to Prince Albert. The forerunner of the latter was the Orphan Working School, which was founded in 1758 and first met in Hampstead.
