Hinckley, Leicestershire, also has a namesake settlement in the US state of Minnesota.

There is a coke fuelled blast furnace, built in 1804 and now a museum, at Moira. The similar Bedlam Furnace, the remains of which still exist at Madeley, Shropshire, is considerably older, having been built in 1756.

Madeley is situated on the A525 road, which runs from Rhyl to Newcastle-under-Lyme. Another place on the route of the road is the village of Rhewl, between Ruthin and Denbigh in Denbighshire.

Motherwell has a namesake town in the Eastern Cape division of South Africa; as has the Cambridgeshire town of Whittlesey -- its S.A. counterpart uses the alternative spelling "Whittlesea" (a viable alternative: that's how the railway station of our British town, spells its name).

Peregrine falcons nest in the towers of the impressive chief churches of both Grantham; and Exmouth, Devon.

The poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson -- born and brought up in mid-Lincolnshire -- spent as a young man, various holidays at Skegness (before it became a resort for the masses). Later in life he resided at some length in another seaside location of some note: Farringford House at Freshwater, Isle of Wight -- ended up doing so only "part-time", because of the disturbance and nuisance caused to him by numerous holidaymakers' seeking of a glimpse of the great man.

Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight also lies on the line of the River Yar.

Being a bit naughty, perhaps; Yarmouth as above has a namesake settlement -- identically so -- in the US State of Massachusetts; however, it is named not after Yarmouth (I.O.W.), but after Great Yarmouth in Norfolk: a rather tangential connection here, with the general "Pilgrim Fathers" scene.

Well-known and -loved folk songs, prominently featuring a castle, concern that of Bungay; and that of Dromore in Ireland (very different themes and "scenes" -- respectively, "defiance of constituted authority"; and motherhood). There is a complication in that there are four different Dromore Castles, in various parts of Ireland, north and south -- no-one knows which one (if any) the song is about. I'll randomly opt for Dromore, Co. Tyrone -- which is at any rate, one of the two out of the four, which are actual town-or-village-type settlements.

Dromore's local soccer team, Tummery Athletic, play Strathroy Harps from Omagh at home tomorrow in Fermanagh & Western Mercer League Division 1. Kickoff is at 2:30pm. Tummery currently lead Dergview Reserves by one point at the top of the division and tomorrow is the last match of the season so they could do with lots of support!

Just wait till the Ballyvary Blue Bombers (whom we had some months ago) weigh in... best name for a sports team, that I've ever come across !

Tiroony in County Tyrone also lies on the line of the River Camowen.

There runs close by Tiroony, the Pomeroy Road; which runs, would you believe it, to the rather larger village of Pomeroy, Co. Tyrone.

A number of prominent literary figures have lived in Keswick; among them, the novelist Hugh Walpole (1884 -- 1941). Born in New Zealand, his family moved to Britain early in his life: spent his schooldays at a variety of schools in England -- not very happy times for him, especially at a particularly horrible school in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Walpole spent the last couple of decades in his life in Keswick; he quickly came very greatly to love the Lake District.

Lechlade is the upper limit on the Thames for navigation by relatively large craft. Rowing boats can get another seven or eight miles upstream to another "...Lade": Cricklade, Wiltshire.

Dunfermline (Fife) is also twinned with a settlement in the State of Niedersachsen, Germany. Swindon's "twin" is Salzgitter; Dunfermline's, Wilhelmshaven.
