In addition to its US connection, Danbury is home to The Aussie BBQ Company, a catering company specialising in spit roasts, barbeque buffets and paella for weddings, garden parties, corporate functions and the like all around Essex.

Another operator purporting to provide an Aussie-style dining experience is Australian Style Catering, which is based in Tonbridge, Kent.

Is paella an Australian thing? All those Hispano-Aussies, maybe...

Chipping Ongar in Essex is also a settlement where the Normans chose to build an 11th century motte and bailey castle.

The "Ongar" in the above-bolded's name, means "in the old tongue", grassland -- "akin to the German word Anger". One might guess that the name of Angmering, West Sussex, came from the same root; but wrongly, it seems -- it's reckoned to have originated as the Saxon settlement Angenmaering, = "Angenmaer's people".

Wiki claims Great Witcombe to be in the Tewkesbury district; though the map would show it as not very near Tewkesbury -- a lot closer to Gloucester, lying slightly south-east of that city. Still, the logic of these administrative divisions is not always obvious...

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, is "from these general parts". By some accounts, her actual birth was in Chipping Sodbury -- her childhood and adolescence were spent first in Yate, Gloucestershire; later in Tutshill, also in Gloucestershire but on the other side of the Severn estuary.

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant's church is dedicated to St. Dogfan. The church of Llangynog, five miles west of L-y-M, is dedicated to St. Cynog (and hence the village's name): Dogfan and Cynog were allegedly half-brothers.

Eglwyscummin is the location of a noted Ogham inscription - the only one in the British islands know to commemorate a woman (well, it is International Women's Day today).

Ogham inscriptions occur on stone monuments, mostly dating from the fifth and sixth centuries. The inscriptions use an Early Medieval form of alphabet and are predominantly in Primitive Irish language.
Another famous Ogham inscription has been found at Port St. Mary, Isle of Man.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of her sinking, the starboard anchor of Mona's Queen, an Isle of Man Steam Packet Company vessel lost off Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo in May 1940, on which many seamen from the Port St Mary area served, was raised on 29 May 2010 and returned to the Isle of Man to form the centrepiece of a permanent memorial. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has it's headquarters in Douglas, Isle of Man.

Balmaghie was the birthplace of Samuel Rutherford Crockett; a seemingly quite prominent gent from 100 -- 150 years ago; of whom I admit I'd never heard, before a just-performed Googling exercise. Dates 1859 -- 1914, he was in the earlier part of his life a Free Kirk minister -- chiefly in Penicuik, Midlothian; and he wrote and had published, a colossal number of -- largely historical -- novels.

Larkhall has a church dedicated to St. Machan; as does Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire.

Loveclough is served by the X43 Witch Way bus service (sounds fun !), whose route also includes Burnley.

The currently "rested" England fast bowler James Anderson was born in Burnley; his usual bowling partner (also currently "rested") Chris Broad was born in Knowle, Bristol.

Knowle's name here, signifies the same as "knoll", a small-ish hill (one being a local feature). The same word and reference some twenty-five miles to the south-west, with Brent Knoll, Somerset -- the village bearing the name of the hill (height 137 metres) at the foot of which it lies.

Somerset Court, located at the eastern end of Brent Knoll, was built in the late 18th century and is a Grade II listed building. From 1940 until 1968, it housed Hill Brow Preparatory School for Boys; since 1974 it has been occupied by The National Autistic Society, who use it as one of its main centres for the care of autistic adults. The Society also manages a number of schools in the United Kingdom; one of these is Robert Ogden School in Thurnscoe near Rotherham, Yorkshire.

I gather that Thurnscoe is often pronounced "Thunsker" by those who dwell thereabouts. There is also a not-pronounced-as-spelt element concerning Fowey in Cornwall -- pronounced "Foy"; but one has the picture that that phenomenon is universal, rather than a case of a "received", versus a "local", pronunciation.

I understand that "Penwith" means "headland" in Cornish. Shoeburyness in Essex may be seen as akin; the town's name being cognate with the adjoining headland, projecting into the Thames estuary, of Shoebury Ness.
