Deanston is the birthplace of pioneering documentary maker John Grierson, after whom a street in the village is named. Probably the most famous and well-known of his works is Night Mail, the 1936 British documentary film directed and produced by Harry Watt and Basil Wright and produced by the GPO Film Unit. The 24-minute film documents the nightly postal train operated by the LMS from London to Glasgow and the staff who operate it. It is narrated by John Grierson and Stuart Legg, the film ends with a "verse commentary" written by W H Auden to a score by the composer Benjamin Britten. John Grierson died on 19th February 1972 in Bath, aged 73; he was cremated according to his wishes and his urn was placed in the sea off the Old Head in Kinsale, County Cork.

Seaweed baths as a thing "on sale to the public" -- rather than the gear for doing the business in one's home -- would seem to be an Irish speciality. They are to be had in Leenane; and at sundry other seaside places in Ireland, including Newcastle, Co. Down.

Kilkeel is the southernmost town in Northern Ireland; Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, is the northernmost.

A bit of internet searching, trying to find the elusive Kingask St Andrews leads me to the conclusion that the surviving Lammas Day Fair actually takes place in the university town of St Andrews (where William met Kate - how romantic!), and Kingask St Andrews is the name of an estate agent business trading there (whose website happens to have a page promoting the Lammas Fair).

Brancaster in Norfolk also has a coastal "links" golf course.

The wreck that can be seen off the harbour at Brancaster is the 1,021 ton coaster SS Vina, which was built at Leith by Ramage & Ferguson in 1894 and registered at Grangemouth. She was a coast-hugging general cargo ship which would have worked the crossings between the east coast of England and through to the Baltic states. During the Second World War, she was requisitioned as a naval vessel for wartime use as a blockship at Great Yarmouth and was later towed up the east coast towards Brancaster where she was used as a target for the RAF before the planned invasion of Normandy in 1944.

Odd nicknames for "locals": people from Grangemouth are known as "Portonians". People from Montrose are known as "Gable-Endies".

Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, has also had a long-standing annual horse fair.

The next village to Arrington -- about a mile to the west -- is Croydon (population 235 !). Lucker, Northumberland (near Seahouses) is in rather similar case: one of its neighbouring villages, a little further away than with the Cambridgeshire pair, is likewise a namesake of an immensely bigger settlement: viz. Bradford.

Whitby Town FC, formed in 1892, is a semi-professional club which plays in the Northern Premier League; their home ground is the Turnbull Ground on Upgang Lane, Whitby. Their nearest opponents are Scarborough Athletic FC, but their furthest opponents are probably Stafford Rangers FC, who play at Marston Road, Stafford.

Paper-making has also been a significant activity in Sittingbourne, Kent.

Sittingbourne's football team is known locally as "The Brickies", an affectionate name also used in Swanmore, Hampshire for the local pub, the Brickmakers Arms.

A famous (depending on your interpretation of the word, of course) resident of Ironbridge is Roger Squires, a retired British crossword compiler / setter who is best known for being the world's most prolific compiler. He compiled under the pseudonym Rufus in The Guardian, Dante in The Financial Times and was the Monday setter for the Daily Telegraph. He was born on 22nd February 1932 in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.

The painter William Harold Dudley (1890 -- 1949) was born in Bilston. I'm a Philistine; but get the idea that arty types are very fond of Cornwall -- we learn that Dudley's style was similar to that of the "plein-air" painters of the Newlyn school.

One end of the B9139 road is very close to Whitehills; its other end is at Portsoy, five miles to the west.
