During WW2 the BBC constructed a transmission station at Ottringham, to counter German jamming of the airwaves and to broadcast allied propaganda into Germany. It was decomissioned in 1953 and the transmitters moved to Droitwich

The Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart and St Catherine of Alexandria is a building styled on the Roman basilica churches of Ravenna in Italy. It has the feature of the interior walls being covered almost entirely of mosaic and marble designed by Gabriel Pippet (1880 – 1962). His art and designs decorated several churches and chapels in its various forms, including St Mary's Church, Douai Abbey, which is at Upper Woolhampton, near Thatcham, Berkshire. These show scenes from the life of St Benedict as recorded in St Gregory's Dialogues (1913).

Resorting to my favourite expedient with Scottish islands, hoping that it will be found acceptable here (in the nature of such outposts, at times it's difficult or impossible to find something to latch on to with the greatest of precision). South Ronaldsay is Orkney's fourth-largest island; in the corresponding Shetland group, the fourth-largest is Fetlar -- principal settlement Houbie.

Assuming that we can use either of the bolded places mentioned above, I'll take Fetlar as my starting place.

Ferries sail daily from Hamars Ness on Fetlar to Gutcher on Yell and to Belmont on Unst.

In World War II, the post office at Gutcher was shot up by a stray German plane; as Wiki puts it, "in an attempt to disrupt the communications system". One feels that the perpetrators' priorities here, seem a little odd ... Another instance of wartime erroneous putting-two-and-two-together, occurred at the opposite end of the country, in World War I; wherein D.H.Lawrence and his wife, when living in Zennor (Cornwall), were suspected by locals, of spying and signalling to German submarines -- he was opposed to the war, and she was German. (Shortly before the war, in Germany, Lawrence had been briefly arrested and accused of being a British spy.)

Knuzden is a part of the Borough of Hyndburn: located on the River Hyndburn; which as far as I can make out, is not closely connected to the Blakewater.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
OBSERVATION

Hyndburn is the name of a local authority, not of a single settlement. As such. it cannot be allowed on this quiz as settlement as such.

I obtained my information about Knuzden from a book published long ago that I bought in a book sale at Blackburn Cathedral about ten years ago.

Not quarreling: just, if Hyndburn isn't valid; I'm absolutely stumped as regards Knuzden ! Seeking a participant with greater ingenuity ...

I was stumped first of all, but let's try this one:

Knuzden lies on the A679 Blackburn Road, which links Blackburn with Accrington, and passes through Oswaldtwistle after leaving Knuzden going east.

Polly James -- who had a leading role in the TV comedy series The Liver Birds, "way back when" -- was born in Oswaldtwistle. Her "opposite number" in said series, Nerys Hughes: was born in Rhyl, Denbighshire.

Midgley, like Heptonstall, has a team which performs "Pace Egg" plays at Easter. These have an ancient origin which may be linked to Scandinavia and include the figures of St George, the Bold Slasher (killed by St George) and the Toss-Pot, a fool.

Midgley lies on a network of twisting minor roads which, according to some maps, extend for a number of miles over high moorland, to an A-road junction near Oxenhope (Metropolitan Borough of Bradford).

(Doesn't the Pace-Egging cast, also include the Toss-Pot's lady friend Doll Wango; and, of all personages, Lord Nelson and one of his sailors?)

There was something of a class-struggle episode around Acocks Green about a hundred years ago: much municipal housing was built in the area -- many existing residents were not happy about the influx of new residents, and some of them moved away. The district was consequently dubbed "Snobs' Green". The Edinburgh suburb of Morningside also has a reputation, whether deserved or otherwise, for a degree of snobbishness and snootiness.

In days gone by, well-to-do "ladies of the house" resident in Morningside were known to spend their days shopping or enjoying morning coffee at the erstwhile up-market Jenner's Department Store on Princes Street.

To get there, they would take Edinburgh Corporation's No. 23 bus, which used to run from Morningside via the city centre to the the also-desirable north-side Edinburgh district of Trinity.
