Tullamore is the county town of its county (viz. Offaly); before 1835, that office was held by Daingean some ten miles to the east. (Until the Irish Free State came into being, Daingean was Philipstown, and Offaly King's County.)

The Grand Canal, which links Dublin and the River Shannon, passes through Daingean. Robertstown, County Kildare, is the highest point on the Grand Canal, being 279 feet above sea level.

Dymchurch was at one end of one of the baselines set up in 1784-90 for the Anglo-French survey which aimed to measure accurately the distance between London and Paris. The other end was at Ruckinge.

In 1629 Henry Cuffin, a curate at Ruckinge, got into trouble with his superiors for playing cricket on a Sunday evening after prayers. Similarly strong sentiments re the Sabbath, to those of this gentleman's ecclesiastical bosses; have long been reckoned a notable feature of Portstewart, Co. Londonderry.

Drogheda in County Louth also has a religious house of Dominican Nuns.

The engineer John Philip Holland (1841 - 1914), who played a major part in the development of the submarine, taught for a while at the Christian Brothers' school in Drogheda; in which town there is a memorial to him. He was born in Liscannor, County Clare.

Carrowcrin in County Mayo is another settlement where the Normans built a motte and bailey castle.

Carrowcrin is on the N59, a national secondary road in the Republic of Ireland. It commences in County Sligo, south of Sligo Town at the Belladrehid interchange with the N4 north of Ballysadare, and ends near Galway City. En-route, the road passes through the village of Leenaun, where in 2007 the 182-year-old bridge in the centre of the village, carrying the road across the River Lahill, collapsed in floods.

Westport in County Mayo also hosts an annual walking festival.

Sir Ralph Stadler (or Stadlier) owned a lot of land in Homerton in the Tudor period. He was born in the area but died in Standon, Hertfordshire.

Ugley in Essex is another of the areas that form the area of the East of England known as "The Hundred Parishes".

Ugley has a nearby village named Ugley Green.

There is also an adjacent but distinct settlement known as Hindley Green near the Greater Manchester town of Hindley.

St Peter's Church, Hindley, was built between 1863 and 1866 and designed by the Lancaster architect E G Paley. He was also at the same time responsible for the design of St James' Church in the Poolstock district of Wigan.

Poolstock is situated south of the River Douglas. Tarleton, also in Lancashire, lies close by that river.

Holy Trinity Church, Tarleton was built in 1886 to the designs of W Basset-Smith. It contains furniture and woodwork by the British furniture maker Robert (Mouseman) Thompson (1876 – 1955), which is notable for the mice carved on them. He was born and lived in Kilburn, North Yorkshire, where there is a Visitor Centre devoted to his work.

Uffington, Oxfordshire, is also known for a white-horse figure cut into a nearby hillside.

Thomas Hughes, the author of "Tom Brown's Schooldays" was born in Uffington in 1822, and the village school mentioned in the book is now Tom Brown's School Museum. The Old Schoolroom was founded in 1617 by Thomas Saunders, a wealthy merchant from Woolstone, Oxfordshire with places for 12 "worthy boys" - 8 from Uffington and 4 from Woolstone.
