Agecroft has a similarity to Great Ayton, North Yorkshire; in that a building from each was -- in the period between the two World Wars, and per the plans of enthusiasts of considerable means -- dismantled, shipped off to a distant land, and re-erected there; on view there ever since. For Agecroft, it was the Tudor country house Agecroft Hall -- "transplanted" to Richmond, Virginia, USA. For Great Ayton, the cottage where dwelt the parents of the explorer James Cook (it is reckoned unlikely that Cook himself ever resided there) -- shipped to Melbourne, Australia.
