John Paul Jones (1747–1792), father of the American Navy, began his career in Whitehaven and returned in 1778 aboard the Ranger when he led a naval raid on the town in the American War of Independence. He was born on the estate of Arbigland near Kirkbean in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright on the southwest coast of Scotland.

HMS Victory, currently located in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, was constructed between 1759 and 1765 in the Naval Dockyard at Chatham in Kent.
Maybe "stretching it", rather -- Wiki says approximately, "The term 'chav', research suggests, does not derive from 'Chatham average'; but from the Romany word for 'youngster'." Re matters Romany: there is at Spalding, Lincolnshire, the Gordon Boswell Romany Museum, of things relating to Romany life on the road.

Sully in the Vale of Glamorgan also has a church that is dedicated to St John the Baptist.

The Church of Ireland's dioceses of Cork, Clyne and Ross (which includes Rosscarbery) were effectively merged during rationalisation in the 1860s. The current Bishop of this tridiocese, Paul Colton, is based in Cork. He was enthroned in St Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork on 24th April 1999, in St Colman's Cathedral, Clyne on 13th May 1999, and in St Fachtna's Cathedral, Ross on 28th May 1999.
With respect: I think that, above, Cloyne (County Cork, south-east of Midleton) is meant. The philosopher George Berkeley (1685 -- 1753) was Church of Ireland Bishop of Cloyne; he was born near Thomastown, County Kilkenny.

The British songwriter and guitarist John Martyn, who was born as Iain David McGeachy OBE in New Malden, Surrey on 11th September 1948, lived in Thomastown from 1998 until his death on 29th January 2009.
