Polish mathematican Henryk Zygalski has a memorial in Chichester crematorium. He was one of the three who broke the German Enigma code (along with Marian Rejewski and Jerzy Różycki). After the war he remained in exile in the UK, and worked at the University of Surrey, Guildford.

North Marden, West Sussex, also has a single cell apsidal church.

North Marden lies on the South Downs, the highest point of which is at Butser Hill, near Petersfield.
The wonderfully-named painter Flora Twort (1893 -- 1985) lived for many years in the above-bolded town. She owned the Old Mill at Langstone, also in Hampshire.

One notable piece of architecture from this period is the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart, Howden. It is one of the early works of the distinguished architect, Joseph Aloysius Hansom, who later became famous for designing the hansom cab. He also designed St Beuno's Jesuit Spirituality Centre, known locally as St Beuno's College, a spirituality and retreat centre in Tremeirchion, Denbighshire, in 1847.

RAF Valley is the nearby Royal Air Force Station concerned with the training of fast jet pilots. The runways are also used by Anglesey Airport, who make commercial flights to Cardiff and, previously to Ronaldsway Airport, which is near to the village of Ballasalla on the Isle of Man.

The pirate radio station Radio Caroline North was based in Ramsey Bay from 1964 to 1968 and supplied with provisions from Ramsey. Since 2000, Radio Caroline has broadcast 24 hours a day via the internet and by the occasional restricted service licence. Currently they also broadcast on DAB Radio in certain areas of the UK: these services are part of the OfCom small-scale DAB+ trials. Caroline can be heard on DAB+ in (amongst other places) Poulton-le-Fylde.
Which town in the early 19th century -- as Wiki rather delightfully puts it -- "appeared to suffer from a lack of enthusiasm for new industrial techniques and opportunities among its industry leaders". One might surmise a certain similarity there with Anstey, just north-west of Leicester: native town of Ned Ludd, leader of the original Luddites.

Anstey is home to Anstey Nomads FC, who play play at Cropston Road in the United Counties League Premier Division. One of their opponents last season was Shepshed Dynamo FC, who play their matches at The Dovecote in the town of Shepshed, Leiecestershire.

The 18th century actor David Garrick, born in Hereford, was brought up in Lichfield. After achieving success in his profession, he lived at Hampton in Middlesex, where among other things he was a governor of the school I was to attend a couple of centuries or so later.
