The name Glenrothes comes from its historical link with the Earl of Rothes, who owned much of the land on which the new town has been built. The Rothes family seat is Littlecroft, near the village of West Milton, Dorset.

The above Dorset village is situated on the Mangerton River. Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry, looks to be the nearest settlement to the namesake Mangerton Mountain (839m.).

Viscount Byng of Vimy, Governor General of Canada 1921-26, lived in his retirement at Thorpe-le-Soken. Another Governor General of Canada, the 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair, who as the 7th Earl of Aberdeen (but not Temair) served in that post from 1893 to 1898, lived in his retirement at Tarland in Aberdeenshire.

The settlement in question, according to the Rivers Authority information that I used, is was where the river entered the estuarine waters near to Bangor.

Anyway, let's move on this this: Aberogwen is the home of the Spinnies Nature Reserve, which one of the 36 sites run by the North Wales Wildlife Trust.
Bryn Pydew, a small settlement to the east of Llandudno Junction, is home to another one.
