The name Glenrothes comes from its historical link with the Earl of Rothes, who owned much of the land on which the new town has been built. The Rothes family seat is Littlecroft, near the village of West Milton, Dorset.
The above Dorset village is situated on the Mangerton River. Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry, looks to be the nearest settlement to the namesake Mangerton Mountain (839m.).
