Swiss Cottage is the location of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, which is located at the Embassy Theatre on Eton Avenue. The School was founded by Elsie Fogarty as The Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art in 1906 to offer a new form of training in speech and drama for young actors and other students. Anne Elizabeth (Elsie) Fogerty was born on 16th December 1865 in Sydenham, London.

Six Pillars is a house in Sydenham designed and built 1932-34 in the international modern style by architect Berthold Lubetkin, who in the later 1940s was chief planner for the new town of Peterlee in County Durham (although none of his plan was executed, because of disagreement between the development corporation and the National Coal Board).
