Eisteddfa Gurig is the location of the Elvis rock, a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, whose only footfall on British soil took place on 3 March 1960 at Prestwick Airport, Prestwick, Ayrshire

Since 2007, Musselburgh has been home to Queen Margaret University.
Also instituted in the year 2007 is the University of the West of Scotland, with multiple campuses, but strongest historical associations with Paisley.

Paisley is associated with the manufacture of thread, one of the major companies being Clark & Co. The Clarks, growing wealthy, moved, as is so often the case, to the fleshpots of SE England, and two later members, art historian Sir Kenneth Clark and lascivious Tory MP and diarist Alan Clark, lived at Saltwood Castle, Hythe, Kent.

Sandwich also gave its name to the food by way of John Montague, 4th Earl of Sandwich, and the word sandwich is now found in several languages. John Montague died on 30th April 1792, aged 73, in Chiswick, Middlesex.

Wolston lends its name to the geological Wolstonian Stage of the middle Pleistocene epoch.
The glacial Wolstonian Stage immediately followed the inter-glacial Hoxnian Stage, named after the Suffolk village of Hoxne.

Sedburgh contains the Cross Keys Inn, a National Trust property. Lydford in Devon also contains a pub of the same name.
