The great soprano singer Adelena Patti was born in Madrid of Italian parents, adopted French nationality, lived for many years in New York but in retirement came to South Wales. She opened the Grand Theatre in Swansea and bought the castle at Craig y Nos near Glyntawe where she died in 1919.

Since 1950 the Outward Bound Trust has owned Gate House Mansion near the centre of Eskdale Green, which they operate as an outdoor adventure and education centre for young people. The Gate House grounds used to encompass the Giggle Alley Forest, which is now open to the public and contains 22 acres of woodland, including a secluded Japanese garden designed by the British garden designer, landscape architect, and town planner Thomas Mawson. Yealand Conyers has a history of Quakerism and has an early Meeting House, built in 1692. However the oldest Friends' Meeting House in the world was built in 1670 in Hertford, Herts and is still in use today.

James Alfred (Jim) Standen was born on 30th May 1935 in Edmonton. He was one of that (probably now extinct) group of players who were professional footballers and professional cricketers, playing as a goalkeeper for Arsenal, Luton Town, West Ham United (where he won the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup), Millwall and Portsmouth; as a cricketer, he was primarily a right-arm medium pace bowler for Worcestershire, where he won the County Championship twice. Worcestershire's main ground is the Blackfinch New Road, which is, unsurprisingly, located in Worcester.

Although he was born in 1967 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, The Welsh actor and musician Rhys Ifans grew up in Ruthin, Denbighshire, and received his primary education at Ysgol Pentrecelyn. He attended Ysgol Maes Garmon, Mold, Flintshire, where he sat his O levels and A levels.
