At 195 miles, the A361 is claimed to be the longest three-digit A road in the UK.
The A361 starts in Ilfracombe in Devon and passes through Lechlade before finally running out of steam at the Northamptonshire village of Kilsby.

Blackpool is well known for its tower. completed in 1894. In the same year construction of Watkin's Tower, also inspired by the Eiffel Tower, was proceeding but it never got beyond the first stage because of problems with its foundations and with financing. It was demolished in 1907 and the site is now occupied by Wembley Stadium,.

Beatrice Shilling was born in Waterlooville. She was an aeronautical engineer who invented a restrictor device which very simply overcame the tendency of the Merlin aircraft engine to stall under negative "g" forces, which had been a significant problem in dogfights in the Battle of Britain. The device was known affectionately to RAF pilots as "Miss Shilling's orifice". She was at the time an employee of RAE Farnborough.
