Ernest Hives, 1st Baron Hives of Duffield (1886-1965), one-time Chairman of Rolls-Royce Ltd, lived at 'Hazeldene', Duffield from 1937. Rolls Royce have a plant at Barnoldswick, Lancashire.

The Barncroft Mill museum in Barnoldswick has a 300hp tandem compound steam engine in working order. The steam museum in Forncett St Mary, Norfolk, has a 150hp cross-compound engine which used to work at Tower Bridge.

There are Coleshills in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire. The Buckinghamshire one used to be in a detached part of Hertfordshire but was transferred to Bucks under the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844. By the same Act Stockland, originally in a detached part of Dorset, was transferred to Devon.

South Shields is another North-Sea coastal settlement that suffered damage from a German attack during World War I.

South Shields has a Frenchman's Bay. There are places of this name in Maine (USA), South Australia and Jamaica. The only other one in the UK that I can find is on the south western extremity of Pembrokeshire near the village of Dale.

Pwllgwaelod has a legend of a lost town beneath the sea, just off the coast. The town of Dunwich in Suffolk really was (mostly) lost to the sea, starting with two great storms in 1287.
