Ystradowen also in the Vale of Glamorgan was also the site of an early Norman motte and bailey castle.

I did, yes ... carrying on: A famous resident was Tom Jones, who had a home in Ystradowen until 1998. He was born (with the birth name of Thomas John Woodward) on 7th June 1940 in Treforest, Pontypridd.

Dún Laoghaire also has a RNLI lifeboat station.
(the RNLI seems to operate seamlessly between Northern Ireland and the Republic which, I suppose, would be reassuring if you got into trouble offshore near the border)
