The Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir performed some of the choral sections in the Pink Floyd film The Wall. The track from that album that was released as a single, much to the chagrin of the group themselves, was Another Brick in the Wall Part 1. The video for this was filmed in Islington, from whence the featured school choir also hail.

My own area of Prestbury, as to be expected, has a Grade I listed Anglican church which is dedicated to St Peter and has a tiny Saxon chapel also in the church grounds.

Sandbach is home to the famous Foden's Brass Band, originally the Foden's Motor Works Band, named after the truck manufacturer which is no longer in the town. The Fairey Band (stop sniggering at the back please!), formerly the Fairey Aviation Works Band, is based in Heaton Chapel, Stockport, although the manufacturer after whom the band is named is also no longer in the town.

The mineral Jasper can be found on the beach at Auchmithie.

Jasperware is a type of pottery first developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. Although named after the mineral, a key ingredient is Barium Sulphate. (I don't care what anybody says, I refuse to use the modern spelling with an 'f' rather than the 'ph'! :-x)

Barium was first isolated by electrolysis of molten barium salts by Sir Humphry Davey, who was born in Penzance.
