Until the early 18th century, Fort Augustus was called Kiliwhimin. Following the Jacobite Rebellion, the fortification was built and named after Prince William Augustus who played a key role at the Battle of Culloden.

Prince William Augustus was the youngest son of King George II. In 1726, aged just five, he was created Duke of Cumberland, Earl of Kennington in the County of Surrey, Viscount of Trematon in the County of Cornwall, Baron of the Isle of Alderney, and Marquess of Berkhamstead in the County of Hertford.

Sheffield is widely known for its Sheffield Steel which is alo the name of an album by Jo Cocker OBE who was born in Crookes. Crookes lies on the on the Rivelin valley opposite to Stannington

The River Rivelin joins the River Loxley at nearby Malin Bridge. A tradition dating back to at least the sixteenth century has Loxley as Robin Hood's birthplace, but the Tourist Board in Nottingham has been far more successful at claiming him for their own!
