It is also the home of Triumph Motorcycles, which was founded in 1984 after the name and manufacturing rights had been bought from the Official Receiver. The original firm, Triumph Engineering, once had a manufacturing base in Meridan.

The disused quarry at Castle Bytham is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), as is the Wootton Bassett Mud Spring.

A predictable comparison really, but given Lowestoft is the easternmost settlement in the UK, then Skaw on the Shetland Island of Unst, is the most northerly.
