I have been asked to clarify the status of posting the same connection more than once in succession. I seem to recall that no official ruling was ever made on this, and this people were allowed to effectively plagiarise the previous link.

I am going to say that as of midnight tonight, repeating the previous clue - in fact, any of the last three - will no longer be permitted. We have had chain answers before, such as piers I seem to recall, which makes things far too easy. What sets this apart from other Association threads is the uniqueness and variety that can so easily be achieved, and the massive potential to learn about so many places in Great Britain (remember, only towns in England, Scotland and Wales are permitted), and I would hope that this can continue for a long time to come. This rule will also be extended to repeating settlements; as well as clues, settlements may also not be copied in any of the next three links.

Hmm. This depends on how strictly I apply the rules. The post you have linked to states that repeat clues are not permitted, but it doesn't say how similar posts can be before they are deemed "too similar".

On the basis that the link to Corbridge applies to Roman Roads, it should be disqualified. On the basis that these Roman Roads are clearly specified as not being the same roman Road, it should accepted.

I am going to allow Corbridge to stand, because it is a grey area that cannot be clearly ruled one way or the other and is not an obvious "foul", but will put a new amendment in place that is effective immediately:

Associations provided should be clearly dissimilar to each of the previous three associations.

Using these as previous associations...

...and Corbridge as a new location, the following would be permitted:

Corbridge is also on a major regional road that spans east to west
Corbridge is also within commuting range of multiple regional centres

However, anything that clearly plagiarises any of the previous three, and as of now anything that has clear similarities to any of the previous three, is now not permitted. Only similarities that are little more than coincidental, or related but at opposing ends of a scale, are now permitted. This can be observed from the second of the three examples above, whereby it does match the previous association about roads - but the two clues are actually very different; they just happen to have the same general subject (i.e. Roads yes; Roman Roads no; Stane Street definitely no). It just so happens that Stanegate and the "major regional road" are basically the same thing...

An amendment has been provided in Post #1.

One thing about this thread that makes it stand out is that the potential for interesting associations, and therefore learning, is almost limitless, so we ("we" meaning myself and a few others) have agreed to make thigns as varied as possible to keep this going.

Yes let's be varied, but with some acceptance of others' viewpoints, without jumping on them for not following diktats. I am sorry, but the attitude of some on these quizzes is far too rigid and leaves me with no feeling of fun.

The idea of interesting, or unusual associations is a really fine one and I was actually enjoying the format, with the one posted being from personal knowledge, but without and understanding of how 'important' the rigidity of rules were. Oh for some genuine enjoyment.
