To people in the Midlands and North, Essex is often considered an example of why the South is less reputable than the North - everyone is busy and far from classy. However, a visitor from Lincolnshire might feel more at home if he visited Saffron Walden, given its size and character.

On the other hand, to people in the South, Lincolnshire is often considered an example of why the Midlands and North are less reputable than the South - snobbish and too laid back. Were a person from Essex to visit Skegness however, he might feel more at home - after all, it's a cheap and nasty seaside resort!
