However, as I am feeling somewhat creative this evening.....

After the Norman conquest of 1066, Robert D'Oyly ordered the erection of Oxford Castle......The D'Oyly Carte opera company was set up by Richard D'Oyly Carte who is buried in the churchyard of St Andrew's church in Fairlight in East Sussex.

Apparently, there, they have the tradition of the Tin Can Band - in mid December at mighnight on a certain day they walk round the village banging tin cans and making as much noise as possible to scare away evil spirits before Christmas
