Anyway (and this post will hurt, but oh well), Bath is another city that has two Universities whereby one is far more prominent than the other :cry::cry:

Whitstable also has a church dedicated to St Alphege, who was an Archbishop who was captured during a Viking raid early in the 11th century and killed by them for refusing to allow himself to be ransomed.

Somerset Maugham spent his early life in Whitstable. His ashes were scattered just down the road near the Maugham Library of The King's School, Canterbury.

Notable events in Hathern seem slightly thin on the ground, but The village is also home to the Swift Sock Factory, one of only a small number of independent sock manufacturers left in the UK. Mudford Sock is a hamlet in the village and parish of Mudford in Somerset, England. It really is.

The abovementioned sitcom set in Doncaster was, if i recall correctly, Open All Hours, of which the principal character was Arkwright. This was not the same one as Sir Richard Arkwright, the famed industrialist, whose skills of organization made him, more than anyone else, the creator of the modern factory system, especially in his mill at Cromford, Derbyshire.

St James's Church in Idridgehay, as with a large number of other churches in the East Midlands, was designed by the architect Henry Isaac Stevens. Outside of the East Midlands, he also assisted in the creation of St Paul's Church in Prestwich.

Briefly, it has something to do with the Evangelical Revival of the 18th Century, which spilled-over into the 19th, and the attempt to cater for the moral and spiritual needs of communities which sprang-up as a result of the Industrial Revolution in the second part of the 19th Century. [Consequently a lot of Victorian churches are now found in the more industrial/suburban parts of a town or city, whereas country churches tend to be mediaeval.]
