Luton is a term applied to a popular form of van, which may or may not be because Luton was once the home of Vauxhall, whose commercial vehicle making arm went under the name of Bedford.

Stockport railway viaduct features in some of the paintings of L. S Lowry.
The main exhibition of his work is at Salford Quays.

Portmahomack is another location that owes a lot to Thomas Telford, courtesy of his designing its (small) harbour. Of course, the most famous location to bear any outward relation to Mr Telford is Telford itself.

I can only take this as a compliment after starting this thread in somewhat acrimonious circumstances. Thank you kindly :)

(And thank you to Paul for pointing it out!)

I remember being taken to Hollingworth Lake as a child - this brings back memories!

Dover

Matthew Webb practised in Hollingworth Lake for his cross-channel attempt from Dover in 1875.

Jarrow is known for the famous Jarrow March in the 1930s - a positive way to protest about something if ever there was one (even if it didn't work). Idiots in the likes of Croydon could learn a thing or two from reading about the March.
